“my left hand” | acrylic on canvas paper

water-soluble artists’ acrylic paint became commercially available only in the 1950s / it is a fast-drying medium & so one has to work fast, especially to blend colors & create shades \ i like acrylic’s intensity & opaqueness of color which is unlike watercolor* / the techniques of controlling & creating effects with the two media are also different \ this takes getting used to

to “finish” an acrylic painting, one glazes and|or scumbles \ i probably should have blended the hand’s colors more but i do not have the patience / we move on to oil painting next week

*watercolor is a very old medium dating back to cave paintings <paleolithic europe> & manuscript illumination <ancient egypt>
